Moodboards

Moodboards are amazing. They're fun and easy to make, they're boredom busters and they look so good in any situation! Moodboards are a fashion designer must because they are a way to develop their design concepts and communicate with other members of the design team, so that everyone has the same idea of the color scheme, style and textures.

Moodboards usually consist of images, text and samples of objects in a composition to the choice of the mood board creator. Images and text can be from the internet, magazines, camera pictures and drawings/sketchings.  Samples of objects are usually color samplers, selected materials and cut-outs from old clothes.

So want to get down to do some mood-boarding? Here's how:-

What you need:

  • A cork board (a magnetic board also works but a cork board is best)
  • Pins (or magnets)
  • A pair of scissors
  • Magazines
  • Quirky bits and pieces (like stickers) related in some way or other to your chosen theme
  1. Place the cork board on a flat surface (the floor or the bed are both good places)
  2. Chose a special 'theme' that appeals to you. You don't have to this, but it is a good starting point to creating mood boards. You can chose a trend theme, such as the military, the rock-chic or the 50s pin up, or you can choose a specific color and then cut-out everything you see in that color. If you don't want to do this, you can make an inspirational mood-board, full of the things you like and love. Hang this in your room and it's great to look at when your feeling down.
  3. Start tearing (or cutting) things related to your theme from your old magazines, or start printing stuff out from the internet, or sifting through old photographs of you, your friends or your family and choose your favorites.
  4. Stack in a neat pile (or a messy one!).
  5. Then start arranging them on your board. Once your happy pin them in place.
  6. Hang it up, or rest it against something in your room, and...
  7. Voila! Your own personal, unique mood board!
Remember, you can change anything on your mood board anytime, it's up to you now!

After making my first mood board, I got totally addicted, as you can see! I made three in the space of two hours, as the photos will show you.

Enjoy!

What's your style?

No, this isn't one of those stupid quizzes you'll probably find in a magazine or a fashion book for little kids.

It's a question.

After reading Mared's latest post, you've probably realized this isn't exactly a fashion blog telling you to buy this or that. It's a blog about what we find interesting. The type of style we like, as individuals. So, this time, I'm asking you... what is your style?

You don't have to reply. All you have to do is think. (But you can comment if you like. I'd love to know what you think!)

Anyhow, I went shopping (again) with a ton of friends today. I love going round town with friends to see what they like. I'm currently on the hunt for ballet pumps/shoes (whatever you like to call them) and boots. Though I need boots more. That probably didn't interest you at all. Oh, well.

So, what is your style?

Rebecca

Things I bought that day

I know they aren't all 'fashion' items, but they are the things that I've bought today.
If you weren't quite sure what they were, I'll tell you:

I bought a head-phone necklace- same as Rebecca, and a french necklace (see right) from Accessorize on the sale for £1.80 each. They were £6.00 previously. Purple nail polish from H&M, about 99p, shampoo thing- Jumping Juniper for greasy hair (I've been told it's really good!) for £5.00 from Lush and hand cream, Cranberry Joy (I think!) on the sale for £2.00 from The Body Shop.

I really like the french/parisian chic right now. Don't tell me why, it's just I do. xD

The Meaning/s of Style

Clothes, shoes and accessorize are what most people think when they hear the word 'fashion' and 'style'. Sometimes, that is true- but not always.

The meaning/s of Style are (I looked 'style' up! xD):

1. A particular kind, sort, or type, as with reference to form, appearance or character: the baroque style, the style of the house was too austere for their liking.

2. A particular, distinctive, or characteristic mode of action or manner of acting: they do these things in a grand style.

3. A mode of living, as with respect to expense or display.

4. An elegant, fashionable, or luxurious mode of living: to live in style.

5. A mode of fashion, as in dress, especially good or approved fashion; elegance; smartness.

And there are MANY more- 16 and 19 in including verb (used with object).

In my opinion, style is unique to the person, and slightly different to fashion. No one else has a style quite like another, and the person's style is the most stylish thing in the world for them- and the ugliest and most unflattering thing to another. And that brings us to other people's opinion- it's good to have other people's opinion- but if the comment is even slightly critical- don't be put down by it- it's just their opinion, and not yours, and with your own personal style- it's your opinion that counts- so wear what makes you happy- I do. i sometimes try on a gazillion (Okay, so I may be exaggerating a little) different outfits a day until I find the one that's perfect (but not on school day's, of course), and my style kind of changes everyday but then again- that's my style. i wear what I like and what I feel like wearing! =D so on a rainy day I'd wear my leather jacket (which, in my opinion, kind of looks like a bikers' jacket) and monochrome clothes- and on a warm, summer day I'd wear a jumpsuit with nice bright colors- or a dress with a floral pattern.

Although style isn't just about clothes and fashion, blah-dy-blah dy-blah.

Style goes deep into the core of the person.

Style quotes:
Fashion fades, only style stays the same~ Coco Chanel

People ask me where I got my singing style. I didn't copy my style from anybody~ Elvis Presley

I stay true t myself and my style, and I am always pushing myself to be aware of that and be original~ Aaliyah

Sorry if this was boring or anything- and especially because there are only two followers right now a.ka. the authors, but I just felt like writing that =D

Best wishes,

~Mared

P.s. Again, I just felt like writing 'Best wishes' right now. xD

Sale on at Accesorize!

Finally.
The Accesorize Sale.
It's here.
And with 70% off a ton of the items in the shop - you're bound to find a special bargain.

Yesterday, we (Mared and I) were looking for necklaces - like we needed any more! - and ooh, what a treasure chest they had! Of course, like most sales, the best items weren't discounted, but even so, these are still pretty necklaces!

A laptop charm for Mared's younger sister Catrin.

A lock and key necklace that both Mared and I brought.

A camera necklace that both Mared and I brought.
We both like taking photos!
A headphones and rose necklace I brought for myself.

A Keepsake Treasure Chestnecklace Mared
brought for her sister, Catrin's birthday.
One which she'll probably "borrow" a lot.

And no, I'm not that mean, I did buy my younger sister (who also has the name Catrin) a few goodies for her birthday. (Which is in May...)

After being reduced, the necklaces cost about £1.20 - £1.80 each, which is very good.

Which one of these is your favourite? Have you brought anything in the Accesorize sale yet?

Love,
Rebecca
