Moodboards usually consist of images, text and samples of objects in a composition to the choice of the mood board creator. Images and text can be from the internet, magazines, camera pictures and drawings/sketchings. Samples of objects are usually color samplers, selected materials and cut-outs from old clothes.
So want to get down to do some mood-boarding? Here's how:-
What you need:
- A cork board (a magnetic board also works but a cork board is best)
- Pins (or magnets)
- A pair of scissors
- Magazines
- Quirky bits and pieces (like stickers) related in some way or other to your chosen theme
- Place the cork board on a flat surface (the floor or the bed are both good places)
- Chose a special 'theme' that appeals to you. You don't have to this, but it is a good starting point to creating mood boards. You can chose a trend theme, such as the military, the rock-chic or the 50s pin up, or you can choose a specific color and then cut-out everything you see in that color. If you don't want to do this, you can make an inspirational mood-board, full of the things you like and love. Hang this in your room and it's great to look at when your feeling down.
- Start tearing (or cutting) things related to your theme from your old magazines, or start printing stuff out from the internet, or sifting through old photographs of you, your friends or your family and choose your favorites.
- Stack in a neat pile (or a messy one!).
- Then start arranging them on your board. Once your happy pin them in place.
- Hang it up, or rest it against something in your room, and...
- Voila! Your own personal, unique mood board!
After making my first mood board, I got totally addicted, as you can see! I made three in the space of two hours, as the photos will show you.
